The Sound Eye
The eye is the lamp of the body — Mt. 6:22

Let’s chuckle at the prisoners in Plato’s cave.
They think reality is shadows on the wall,
Shaped by fire behind them. Heads chained, they are slaves,
Forced to watch dark silhouettes on a granite hall,
Cast by men behind them, marching by in parade.

Reality shimmers outside the cave—true light!
No prisoners are we. We are free to behold
The true, the good, the beautiful, in pure eyesight!
(No shadows on our wall. Those were the days of old.)
We are now enlightened, dazzling with insight.

We have no chains shackling our necks or our feet;
We act according to what is good, true, and known.

They, and them, live in caves of shadowy deceit—
No shadows pass before our luminescent thrones.
